The Royal Family has shared an amazing throwback portrait of the Queen to mark her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Taking to Instagram, the social media account for the Royal Family shared the portrait – which was one of Her Majesty’s first official portraits as Sovereign.
Captioning the iconic shot, the account said: “On this day 70 years ago, just twenty days after her accession to the throne, The Queen sat for her first official portraits as Sovereign.
These iconic photographs were taken by Dorothy Wilding to produce portraits to use as the basis for The Queen’s image on new coins, banknotes and stamps, as well as providing the official portrait of Her Majesty which was sent to every British embassy throughout the world.”
The image shows a young Queen Elizabeth from her profile view. The Queen wears her hair in a stylish updo and accessorises with pearl earrings and a diamond necklace. Although the portrait is in black and white, her makeup look is simple and stunning and she can also be seen sporting a deep lip colour.
The Royal Family also explains that the portrait can be seen on show as part of the Jubilee celebrations, writing: “As part of the #PlatinumJubilee celebrations this year, @royalcollectiontrust are staging a special exhibition in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace that will feature a display looking at The Queen’s Accession to the throne in February 1952.”
With celebrations taking place all year, a special bank holiday will take place from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022. As part of this, there will be a range of events commemorating the Queen’s historic reign of 70 years.
