Prince William has visited Sheffield to unveil new commitments secured by the Homewards programme to help prevent homelessness in the city and across each of the six flagship Homewards locations.

His Royal Highness’ first visit of the day marked two major commitments to tackle homelessness in Sheffield and beyond. Homewards Activator Homebase have pledged a major investment of £1 million to support Homewards in furnishing and decorating new housing projects, whilst local Sheffield landlords have committed to provide an initial thirty-one homes for families at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness in the city.

The Prince of Wales also met parents, carers and young adults from local families who have experienced homelessness and who were taking part in a workshop to co-design Homewards Sheffield’s innovative housing project. Each Homewards flagship location will deliver its own unique innovative housing project, designed to meet local needs and test new ways to unlock homes at scale, both within their area and beyond.

His Royal Highness then travelled to the centre of Sheffield where he attended a Homewards Sheffield Local Coalition meeting. The Coalition has been convened over the past nine months by Homewards to bring in new partners, create a shared vision for Sheffield, and formulate a Local Action Plan towards ending homelessness in the area. The group includes over 70 organisations, and members of the local community with lived experience of homelessness.
