An act of kindness by Prince William towards his wife the Princess of Wales thrilled royal fans, who said it showed how close and connected they are and how he respected and cared for her

Royal Family fans were delighted after witnessing a sweet gesture made to the Princess of Wales by Prince William.

It followed a speech Kate gave for World Mental Health Day in which they discussed mental health and young people in the social media age. The royal couple’s interaction in a short clip last year became the subject of a viral video which left fans of the couple smitten. Many people may not have seen the gesture in the video, which came after Kate had given a speech and returned to William’s side afterwards.

The prince was seen on camera applauding his wife before he politely pulled out a chair to allow her to sit beside him. It was a very small moment but its thoughtfulness touched many. The video has amassed hundreds of thousands of views since it was emerged on TikTok. Fans of the royals loved the adorable act and many praised Prince William for his polite and loving behaviour.

One person said: “Of course he does. He’s a GENTLEMAN.” In further comments another person added: “His mom would be so proud” and a third person said: “So beautiful.” Further posts paid tribute to his politeness saying: “His mother brought him up with impeccable manners.” And other people were were quick to remark on the couple’s loving relationship.

One social media user said: “They are so adorable.” Another woman, meanwhile, wrote: “These two are very connected to each other. I love how he puts his hand on her waist in crowds like ‘I’m here, I’ve got you!’”. Another comment simply said: “Such a beautiful couple inside and out.”

The Mirror reported earlier this month royal fans all know where Prince William and Kate’s love story began – but not everyone knows how exactly it blossomed. Viewers of The Crown’s last series caught an imagined re-telling of how they met at St Andrew’s University. But as experts have regularly pointed out, the Netflix series is historical fiction. Yet the couple have previously given glimpses into the day they first met at an event for freshers, while experts have written in more detail about the early days.

Played on-screen by Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, the young William and Kate are shown becoming friends and harbouring relationships with their respective partners, with the prince meeting Carley Massey-Birch and Kate going out with Rupert Finch. She even brings her boyfriend – a fourth-year student at the time – home for Christmas, later telling mum Carole: “You’ve always loved the idea of me and William together.”

William told ITV how the pair met at the time. He said: “We moved in together as friends because we were living together. We lived with a couple of others as well, and it just sort of blossomed from there. We just saw more of each other, hung out a bit more, and did stuff.”
