A video of Princess Kate playing hockey in high heels while in the early stages of her pregnancy with Prince George has gone viral on TikTok.
The royal was in the first trimester of her first pregnancy when she visited St. Andrew’s school in Pangbourne, Berkshire, and stopped in on a game of hockey.
Eager to join in, Kate picked up a hockey stick and got involved, despite being in high-heeled boots and pregnant.
Kate’s actions were particularly remarkable because she suffered from a severe form of morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, which just days later would see her admitted to hospital.
The clip of Kate taking to the hockey pitch went viral last week, despite the event happening over 11 years ago. It was shared on TikTok, where it was liked 415,000 times and viewed 2.1 million times.
The caption read: “Kate middleton playing hockey with high heel boots & im pretty sure pregnant is crazy🙏bro is not real she’s so iconic i love her.”
One reply read: “How does one look so elegant while playing hockey holy moly.”
Kate was a pupil at St. Andrew’s school in the video up to the age of 13. She went on to attend the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where she met Prince William.
The princess used her visit to the school to reminisce about her childhood nickname, Squeak, in honor of the class guinea pigs.
Quoted in the Daily Mail at the time, she said: “There was one called Pip and one called Squeak, so my sister was called Pip and I was Squeak.”
The visit was Kate’s last public engagement before she was admitted to hospital on December 3 with severe morning sickness.
The acute episode forced Kate and Prince William into an early reveal of their pregnancy news as they had to explain why she was off work.
A palace statement at the time read: “As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
