Prince William sent subtle message about Kate and royals at latest appearances

Brave Kate Middleton revealed last month that she is battling cancer, and a royal expert said it’s absolutely clear where public support lies after Prince William’s latest royal visit

A royal expert has claimed Prince William’s “business as usual” signal shows signs the Royal Family is getting back to normality after Kate, Princess of Wales’s cancer announcement.

The Princess of Wales last month bravely revealed in a video that cancer had been found during abdominal surgery. As Kate continues her recovery, her husband has been spotted out in public or carrying out duties on behalf of the crown.

He and Prince George were seen cheering on their beloved Aston Villa last week as part of their first outing since Kate made her diagnosis public. The Prince of Wales was also seen helping people at a food distribution charity in Surrey on Thursday.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believed the appearances showed that the family was headed back to normality.

“Royals realise that every single thing they do sends a message in one way or another,” he told The Sun. “It wasn’t just a question of appearing with George at an occasion that was enjoyable.

“It was a question of sending a signal that it was business as usual – as far as that was reasonable to be expected. If Catherine had been there, it would have been fantastic, but no one is expecting that. People wouldn’t expect that after her video message, which I think is the bravest ever on a health issue by a public figure in Britain.”

William took a step back from royal duties after Kate revealed her diagnosis in order to take care of her and their three children. King Charles III, who is also battling cancer, praised his daughter-in-law after she made her health update.

Queen Camilla has continued to carry out her royal duties after she reportedly told Charles to focus on his treatment. Other royals have also stepped up to plug the gaps left by Kate and Charles, although William’s appearances will likely reassure them that normality will return to the Royal Family to some degree.
