Prince William and Prince Harry embarking on ‘two different documentary focuses’ as both honour Princess Diana’s legacy

Prince William and Prince Harry are embarking on “two different documentary focuses” as both royals honour Princess Diana’s legacy, a commentator has claimed.

On July 7, the Prince of Wales announced he would star in a two-part documentary exploring homelessness, set to air in the autumn.

The two-part series, titled Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, will go behind the scenes of the first year of his Homewards programme, which he launched in 2023.

Through his ambitious initiative, the 42-year-old royal has set his sights on making rough sleeping, sofa surfing and other forms of temporary accommodation a thing of the past.

Three days later, Prince Harry announced his own upcoming documentary, set to air on July 25.

Speaking to reporter Rebecca Barry, the Duke of Sussex, 39, will explain why he is fighting to expose what Harry says are the illegal activities of Britain’s tabloid newspapers.

Gareth Russell, a royal commentator, spoke exclusively to GB News, explaining that both William and Harry are continuing their mother’s legacy, but in very different ways.

He said: “It’s interesting that both princes are focusing on aspects that many people would have associated with their mother, and obviously became part of the things that they cared about, partly because they are her sons, but also because they were issues that impacted them as they grew up.

“There is a difference, however. The Prince of Wales is focusing on issues that are more external and about other people, things like the environment and obviously homelessness. Homelessness is very much something that Princess Diana cared about.

“But Prince Harry is focusing on the legacy of press intrusion and how it has impacted him personally.

“Obviously, it did have a very negative impact on his mother’s life, and to a degree, I would argue, also on his father’s.

“But Prince William’s is much more about broad causes, while Prince Harry is continuing with a much more personally focused moral crusade, as he would see it.”

Russell suggested that the Duke of Sussex could be taking part in his upcoming documentary to satisfy the public interest.

He continued: “There might be a certain amount of saturation points. There was public interest in hearing about this again from him, but I think some people, even some of his supporters, would love to see him move on to other things.

“Other people think he’s perfectly entitled to talk about this if it’s still something that he feels aggrieved about.

“The two princes’ documentary focuses are very different which, I think, is probably quite telling.”
