Prince George had tennis lesson with Wimbledon legend thanks to mum Kate

Prince George is a huge fan of tennis, and his mum, the Princess of Wales, was able to arrange for him to have a private lesson with one of the sport’s biggest legends

Prince George could be a future Wimbledon champion if tennis legend Roger Federer has his way.

Federer previously revealed that he gave the young royal, who’s been playing tennis since age five, a private lesson. His mother, the Princess of Wales, is renowned for her love of sports and fitness, and supports several significant sporting organisations, including the Rugby Football Union and Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC).

As their patron, Kate is often spotted at Wimbledon, enthusiastically cheering from the Royal box. Tennis superstar Federer once divulged details about visiting the Middleton’s residence to give George a private tennis lesson.

It’s clear that Prince George has inherited his mother’s passion for tennis, having met the famous Wimbledon champion. Kate would have scored major mum points by arranging a private lesson with the former tennis pro for her eldest son.

Federer reminisced about the experience, saying: “At that stage it’s all about just touching the ball, it’s already good. Same with my boys. “, reports OK!.

When asked how he felt knowing the prince admired him, the tennis star acknowledged his ‘advantage’. He said: “I think I have a little advantage that I actually spent some time, you know, with him.”

“I’m the only player he’s ever met. Then you have a little head start in who is your favourite player.”

The 20-time Grand Slam champion reminisced about playing with Prince George back in 2019 during a visit to the Middleton family home, owned by Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton, calling George a “sweet boy”.

The Princess of Wales, who is a keen tennis fan and patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, has struck up a friendship with the tennis legend over the years.

Last, year, Kate teamed up with Roger ahead of the annual tennis tournament for a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the ball boys and girls at Wimbledon

Kate has been a regular at Wimbledon since she became part of the Royal Family in 2011, often seen relishing the summer’s thrilling matches alongside her husband, the Prince of Wales, and her two eldest children, Prince George, aged 10, and 9 year old Princess Charlotte.

In her role as patron, Kate has had the privilege of presenting trophies to tennis greats such as Novak Djokovic, Marketa Vondrousova, and Elena Rybakina. She usually graces the men’s and women’s finals at Wimbledon, where she presents the prestigious awards to the champions and runners-up.

Last year, the much-adored Royal joined forces with Roger Federer for a special sneak peek into the lives of the “amazingly professional” Wimbledon ball boys and girls, culminating in a professionally produced video by Kensington Palace featuring Kate and Roger on the court.

It has previously been reported that Kate enjoys hitting the tennis courts with her children at the Hurlingham Club, an exclusive venue in London. According to HELLO! Magazine in 2019, the Princess has been taking Prince George and Princess Charlotte to this private members’ club for quite some time.

A source revealed to the publication: “Kate has been at Hurlingham a lot over the summer. She takes all the kids.”

“There’s a gorgeous playground they all love, and George and Charlotte have tennis lessons. They all pile into the clubhouse afterwards for lunch or tea and they’re never bothered, they’re just like any normal family. They all seem to really love it there.”
