Meghan Markle is “pushing for an apology” from the Royal Family before she agrees to any reconciliatory visit to the UK, a royal expert has claimed.
The Duchess of Sussex has had a strained relationship with senior members of Prince Harry’s family for years, and she levelled a series of egregious accusations at them after stepping down from her official role.
The Duke doubled down on the claims in his memoir Spare, and he has repeatedly demanded an official apology be made to his wife.
Reports have emerged in recent weeks claiming Prince William would like to “reconcile” with his estranged brother but author Tom Quinn suggested peace is unlikely to happen until Meghan sees an honest expression of regret.
The author claimed the Duchess recently said that “until she feels that the Royal Family have been sufficiently nice to her – and grovellingly apologised for the past – it’s not going to happen.”

Commentator Charlotte Griffiths argued the Sussex camp has been hoping for an official apology from the Royal Family but has “given up” on it.
Speaking to GB News, Griffiths said: “I think that she is pushing for an apology.
“She’s been pushing for that for quite a long time, although there have been reports from the Sussex camp that she has sort of given up on an apology.
“I don’t think that she is actually blocking him from seeing his family though, we know that he came to see his dad when his dad was ill and we know that he is coming over again in May.”
Meghan hasn’t returned to the UK since September 2022. Speculation has been rife on whether she will accompany Prince Harry next month as he is tipped to attend a celebratory service at St Paul’s Cathedral for the Invictus Games’s 10th anniversary.
But Griffiths argued the Duchess might give the event a miss to “protect herself” amid the unpopularity she has faced in the UK since stepping down.
She added: “Although I have to say, she is not coming with him. He is coming over to St Paul’s for an Invictus Games event and it is a surprise she is not coming with him, it feels like a withdrawal of support.
“I think that she is just protecting herself because she knows that she is not very popular in this country.
“I do think that Tom may be pushing the boundaries to say that she is preventing an olive branch, to be honest.”
