Meghan Markle is said to be having second thoughts about visiting the UK after sources revealed Prince Harry was planning to make the trip to London next month with his wife and children.
Harry is scheduled to return to London in May to mark the tenth anniversary of his signature Invictus Games organisation at an anniversary service at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8.
The Sussexes are reportedly planning to bring their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet over to London with them in the hope to spend more time with Harry’s extended family.
However, a royal insider told OK! Magazine Meghan was starting to re-think her decision to visit as she was worried about her children’s safety.
“It’s now got to the point where Meghan doesn’t want to come to the UK with the children. She just doesn’t feel safe,” the source claimed.
“The situation is now about whether the family should attend with increased security or Harry should go it alone.”
But it’s understood Harry does not want to go alone this time, pleading Meghan to be by his side as he feels a stronger connection to the UK now more than ever, in the wake of Princess Kate’s and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses.
The Sussexes were said to have been keeping the exact date of their scheduled UK visit for the Invictus Games from the public due to security fears, but after the details were disclosed, Meghan began to reconsider.
The source went on to say that Meghan’s hesitancy to visit the UK ran deeper than just security concerns, saying the mother-of-two reportedly did not want to be “thrown back into an anxiety-fuelled visit to England where she feels like she’s not wanted”.
Another source told New magazine that the Sussexes were planning to stay in a secret location to protect their privacy, with the children set to meet their grandfather King Charles and Windsor cousins for the first time in two years.
“Harry and Meghan are planning a fifth birthday party for Archie at their Montecito home on 6 May and were then going to fly over to the UK on a private jet the following day,” the source said.
“They were going to attend the Anniversary Service, followed by a few more days in the UK so the children could meet with members of Harry’s family.”
The insider also claimed the Duke of Sussex “would love” for his children to have a better relationship with their royal cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
“Harry would love for Archie and Lilibet to have a better relationship with their cousins or even the children of some of his friends,” the source said.
“He feels like they have been away from the UK for far too long and wants to start building a life here. Not full-time, but a second home they can visit regularly.”
Although Harry and Meghan are not working royals and live outside the monarchy, the Duke of Sussex remains fifth in the line of succession to the British throne.
Archie is right behind his father as sixth in line while Lilibet is seventh in line to the throne.
