Prince Harry is set to return to the UK to celebrate 10 years of the Invictus Games and he has one wish for his visit, that he has ‘reached out’ to his father King Charles to request
The last time Prince Harry returned to the UK it was for one emotional reason: to see his father King Charles after the monarch’s cancer diagnosis. Set to head back to his home country again, the Duke of Sussex’s next trip will have a more celebratory, upbeat tone – with Harry returning to attend a special service to mark 10 years of the Invictus Games. Not only that but in the time that Harry’s been absent from the UK, Charles has progressed well in his cancer treatment, leading his doctors to revise their earlier advice that he should avoid “public-facing duties”.
Charles returned to royal engagements this week, visiting the University Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre and sharing emotional conversations with patients and clinicians. Whilst the monarch won’t be ramping straight back up to a full schedule of engagements, and anything put in his diary will be “subject to doctors’ advice”, his return was a major boost to the monarchy. With the King continuing his treatment, sources have revealed that Prince Harry “reached out” to his father ahead of his visit to express that he has just one wish for his time in the UK.
The source explained that since Harry and Charles were reunited earlier in the year, the pair have stayed in touch, and that Harry is keen to see his father whilst he is back in the UK – a sentiment that the monarch shares. “Harry has kept in regular contact with his father on several occasions and made no secret of his desire to see him when he can,” explained the source. “He has been especially concerned about him and hopes the King will be well and able to see him as planned.”
Charles has a few things booked in his calendar during Harry’s visit, but royal sources have made it clear that despite his busy schedule King Charles absolutely intends to see his younger son whilst he is in the country.
It has been reported that no senior members of the Royal Family will be attending the landmark anniversary of the Invictus Games at St. Paul’s Cathedral – and that Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex won’t be in attendance either. However, the Duchess will meet Harry in Nigeria where the couple have been invited to take part in cultural activities and meet members of the country’s military.
