Charles Spencer Shares Stunning Photo of Sister Princess Diana on What Would’ve Been Her 63rd Birthday

If you’re a mega fan of the royal family (or a royals reporter like myself), you likely recognize July 1 as an extremely important date: Princess Diana’s birthday.

Today, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother would have turned 63. And while neither brother made public mention of the date today, one family member did mark the occasion—and with a gorgeous image of the princess.

Charles Spencer, also known as Princess Diana’s brother, posted a stunning photograph of his sister on his Instagram Story. Over the image, he simply wrote, “63 years ago today…”

The beautiful tribute to Diana is an unusually candid one from Spencer. While he has posted images of his sister before, this photo feels particularly heartfelt and nostalgic.

Back in April of this year, Spencer shared a childhood photo of himself and his sister on Instagram. Along with the image, he wrote, “My first day of school, in September 1968: my father took this photograph of me and my sister, Diana, just before he drove us to Silfield, a really lovely primary school in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. The headmistress was Miss Jean Lowe, a warm and thoughtful lady who loved her boys and girls.”

He continued, “I was there till 1972, when I headed off to the place I call – in my memoir – A Very Private School.”

Though Princes William and Harry do occasionally speak about their mother separately, it has been quite some time since they spoke about her together publicly. Back in 2021, the brothers unveiled a statue of their mother on what would have been her 60th birthday.

William shared a photo of himself and his brother at the monument on Instagram which also featured a statement on behalf of both of them.

The statement said, “Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better. Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

The note was simply signed, “Prince William and Prince Harry.”
