Buckingham Palace announces King Charles III will return to royal duties following cancer diagnosis

It has not been a good year for the British royal family in terms of health, as both King Charles III and Kate Middleton were diagnosed with cancer in just a few months.

On Friday morning, Charles made headlines after it was rumored that the treatment he is undergoing for his illness isn’t proving effective, which is said to have triggered a worsening of his health.

On the other hand, Kate Middleton is also out of the public eye and ‘hidden’ in her Adelaide Cottage retreat, where she has been recovering from her illness for weeks.

By mid-afternoon, various journalists announced that Buckingham Palace would release a statement at 19:00 local time on Friday, April 26. Although the fear was that the news would be bad, the announcement was actually good news about Charles III.

Statement from the British Royal Family

It turns out King Charles is well enough to return to his royal duties, and he is set to resume public-facing duties as early as next week according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace.

On Tuesday, the 75-year-old and his wife, Queen Camilla, will visit a cancer treatment center according to the palace. There they will meet with both patients and medical professionals.

“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” the statement reads.

“To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.

“In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.

“As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.”
