Catherine of Wales has already started to leave home, but she may not resume her official agenda until the fall. The princess was mentioned last week as a “driving force” behind a royal initiative urging British companies to introduce more family-friendly working arrangements.
Following that small allusion, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace rushed to clarify that said report was “a major priority for the princess,” but that it should not be taken as Middleton’s return to work under any circumstances.
Prince William’s wife remains out of the public eye as she recovers from the cancer she announced last March. She is undergoing “preventive chemotherapy” following a successful abdominal surgery in January.
Attention is focused on Catherine due to the two important events of the Windsors this week and next
Several British media outlets claimed last week that, although there is no set schedule for it, the wife of Prince William is not expected to resume her official duties until after the summer. However, this doesn’t mean that we won’t see her at a family event or in some casual setting; last week it was reported that the princess has started going out more with her family, probably in a scene similar to the one she had with her husband at a nearby organic market when uncertainty surrounded her name.
For now, Catherine is focused on her recovery, and although it has been proven that her appearances can be essential for the peace of social media, it seems that since she announced the cancer and asked for “time, space, and privacy,” nobody wants to pressure the princess.
However, attention has once again turned to Catherine for two reasons. First, Vanity Fair quoted sources close to her on Thursday to ensure that the princess had overcome a significant phase of treatment and that “she is much better.” And second, due to the two important events scheduled for the British royal family this week and next. On June 8, there was speculation that Middleton could make a comeback at the Colonel’s Review, which is a sort of rehearsal for the well-known Trooping the Colour parade, held a week later. Finally, Catherine will not review the troops on June 8 because, as Buckingham has announced, her presence at the event is ruled out.
Besides her recovery, another issue that may be delaying Catherine’s reappearance is the upcoming elections in the United Kingdom, which will take place on July 4th. The British royal family is obliged to cancel or postpone any engagements that could seem to distract from the electoral campaign, and it is clear that a stellar appearance by the princess would overshadow any other news.

If King Carlos III seemed eager to be seen in public and resume his agenda while undergoing cancer treatment, his daughter-in-law has chosen a very different path. With this information on the table, one could conclude that the cancer of Prince William’s wife is more serious than the King’s, but other factors could explain the different behaviors, such as their different positions within the family or Middleton’s desire, as she stated, to focus on her family during her recovery.
The three children of the couple – Prince George, Charlotte, and Louis – are starting school today after a week of vacation, so it is suspected that the family, with a clear schedule due to the elections, moved to Amber Hall, their residence in Norfolk, where they are also expected to spend a long and peaceful summer.
