Prince William was reportedly so relieved to have ended his relationship with Kate Middleton that he went on a ‘juvenile’ night out to celebrate his new-found freedom
Prince William “humiliated” Kate Middleton when he ended their romance with “juvenile” behavior, according to a royal expert.
The Prince of Wales has become known for his devotion and duty as a father and senior royal, but that wasn’t always the case. William went out on the town with his pals following his split from Kate as he marked the end of their relationship.
According to royal biographer Robert Jobson, this was one of William’s “daft moments” and came about after he dumped Kate, who he had met at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Their relationship was initially believed to be blossoming, especially after William introduced Kate to his grandmother, the Queen, and Kate became a familiar presence at high-profile events.

William and Kate’s relationship faced non-stop speculation about a potential marriage, but William was reportedly not in a rush to propose. In fact, he was allegedly having second thoughts about settling down with his teenage love.
In his latest book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography, Robert Jobson suggested Kate sensed something was off when William unexpectedly skipped a 2006 New Year’s Eve party organized by her parents. Following his absence at the event, he phoned Kate and ended their relationship in “an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation” where they both supposedly agreed they wanted different things.
This was the moment his questionable behavior is said to have taken place. Jobson wrote: “He celebrated their break-up with an alcohol-fuelled night at the Mahiki nightclub in Mayfair with his close pals. ‘I’m free!’ he shouted as he slipped into a drunken version of the robot dance.
“He then told his friends that they should all ‘drink the menu’, which they more or less ended up doing.” Kate, according to Jobson, discovered his “juvenile antics” which appeared to signal a humiliating end to their relationship. However, she reportedly chose to maintain her dignity.
“Although she was distraught, Catherine resolved to hide her pain from the outside world,” he said. “Carole Middleton acted swiftly, taking her heartbroken daughter for a break in Dublin – a welcome respite from media scrutiny. William, of course, simply got drunk at Mahiki and started yelling about being ‘free’.”
Upon her return, Kate decided to give him a taste of his own medicine. “On Catherine’s return, she decided she wasn’t going to sit around moping; what was good for the goose was good for the gander,” Jobson wrote.
After a girls’ trip to Ibiza with a friend, Kate was frequently seen wearing bolder outfits than ever before at nightclubs and events alongside her sister Pippa Middleton. Perhaps it was seeing his ex-girlfriend being so “vibrant and sociable” that made William realize what he had lost.
He soon began trying to win Kate back, which eventually happened at a ‘Freakin Naughty’ costume party they were both invited to by a mutual friend. Kate attended dressed as a nurse, which certainly seemed to rekindle the flame for her former boyfriend.
