Princess Diana Detailed Her Honeymoon With King Charles in a Touching Personal Letter

She called the trip a “tremendous success.”

It seems like every other day, there’s an event auctioning off the possessions from the late Princess Diana—and given that she was the People’s Princess, it’s no surprise that the public is fascinated with the her and her belongings. Today, a series of letters written by Diana have been shared and are expected to sell for up to $25,000.

In a 1981 correspondence with her family’s former housekeeper, Maud Pendrey, a 20-year-old Diana reflected on her honeymoon with a then-Prince Charles after she returned to Balmoral from the two-week cruise aboard the royal yacht Britannia. Despite later speaking about the turmoil the couple was facing during their romantic getaway, in the letter, Diana called the trip a “tremendous success” and a “glorious time” per the Daily Mail.

“I do hope you weren’t too tired after all the wedding activities, and that you were able to see a lot from where your seats were,” she wrote. “The honeymoon was a tremendous success, and we had a glorious time catching up on our lost energy and sleep. I just wanted you both to know how deeply touched I am by your thoughtfulness and, again, a million thanks. Endless love and affection—Diana.”

“On our honeymoon, cufflinks arrive on his wrists,” Diana said “Two Cs entwined like the Chanel ‘C.’ Got it. One knew exactly. So I said, ‘Camilla gave you those, didn’t she?’ He said, ‘Yes, so what’s wrong? They’re a present from a friend.’ And boy, did we have a row. Jealousy, total jealousy. And it was such a good idea—the two Cs—but it wasn’t that clever.”

Other letters between Diana and Pendrey are also included in the bundle of nine notes up for auction today through Julien’s Auctions.
