Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis may attend Trooping the Colour without their mother

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis may attend Trooping the Colour for the first time this year without mother Catherine, the Princess of Wales to guide them.

The annual royal parade is slated for Saturday, June 15 (UK time) and all three children are expected to appear on Buckingham Palace’s balcony with key members of the royal family.

“I have this lovely little feeling, that perhaps, the carriage will include the king and queen and the three grandchildren,” royal author Marlene Koenig told Daily Express US, adding that “people would be really disappointed” if the Wales children don’t attend.

It would be unusual for George, Charlotte and Louis not to be there, as all three siblings have attended almost every year since 2019 (excluding 2020 and 2021, when Trooping the Colour was cancelled).

But this would be the trio’s first time at such a massive royal outing without their mother Catherine, who is still undergoing cancer treatment.

There was some confusion about her attendance earlier in the year, as the British Army website claimed the Princess of Wales would be there.

Kensington Palace said it had not confirmed her appearance and the claim was subsequently removed from the Army website.

Catherine’s absence will pose a unique challenge for the royal family, as she is often seen holding her children and keeping them on their best behaviour during major outings like Trooping the Colour.

Trooping the Colour controversies, moments that got us talking

Without her presence on the balcony to settle George, Charlotte and Louis, it will be up to Prince William and other key royals to keep the kids focused.

“Normally, it was mum and Camilla and the three children, but since Catherine is most unlikely to be at Trooping, [the thought] is that they will be with their grandparents, which would be really cute, really sweet.”

This year marks the second Trooping the Colour of King Charles III’s reign and royal watchers are expecting to see only a handful of senior royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony, like last year.

In 2023, the King invited the Wales family, Princess Anne and her husband, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to stand with him on the balcony as a symbol of his ‘slimmed down’ monarchy.
