Kate Middleton and Prince William share unusual pet addition to the royal family

Prince William revealed details of an unusual pet which has been added to their family at a recent visit to Woodgate Valley Urban Farm in Birmingham.

Along with Kate, and their three children Charlotte, George, and Louis, the royal shared that there are now guinea pigs living with the family in Windsor.

The father-of-three seemed to be fond of the odd pets, noting that they have to be ‘constantly stroked and looked after’.

The Prince gave some insight into the homelife of the Royal family on a visit to a farm in Birmingham on Thursday, sharing that they have welcomed some new members to their family.

According to Hello, William was grooming some guinea pigs on his visit, and he said: “These guys are pretty cool. We’ve got guinea pigs at home and they’re not like this.”

It appears the pets live in the lap of luxury, with the royal sharing that their pets love being handled at all times.

“You have to keep them constantly stroked and looked after,” William said.

However, it appears that even the children of the royal family might refuse to clean up after their pets, with William saying that is largely his responsibility.

He said: “I spend my life cleaning out the guinea pig cage because the children forget to do it.”

According to the RSPCA, guinea pigs are social animals, and get lonely unless they are with others.

The website says: “Guinea pigs are active up to 20 hours per day, and only sleep for short periods. Guinea pigs are highly social – in the wild they live in close family groups of 5-10 guinea pigs, though several groups may live in close proximity to form a colony. Guinea pigs get lonely and shouldn’t be kept alone – they’re happiest in pairs.”

During his visit to the farm, William met with staff and volunteers. The facility is dedicated to supporting children and young people who experience barriers to education, and face struggles with mental health.
